Medical Massage

Medical massage is outcome based massage therapy in which the treatment focuses on relieving and manipulating soft tissue affected by a health condition, whether it be a localized issue or a systemic condition. Examples of localized conditions include recovery from a sprained ankle that has recently formed scar tissue. Examples of systemic conditions (health conditions that affect the entire body) include autoimmune, tick-borne, or inflammatory conditions. We have treated many different types of conditions, some of which include Sciatica due to Piraformis Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Lyme Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Scoiliosis, etc.

Deep Tissue massage

Deep tissue massage therapy is a massage treatment that focuses on removing adhesions in the deeper layers of musculature and fascia.  Techniques used include deeper effleurage and petrissage (swedish strokes), muscle stripping (to bring healthy blood to the targeted band of muscle), trigger point therapy (to relieve trigger points/areas of hyperirritable muscle cells) and myofascial release (targeting adhesions and fascial restrictions in the superficial and deep layers of fascia).

classic swedish massage (relaxation)

Swedish massage is a classic relaxation massage which uses gliding techniques of Effleurage and Petrissage to loosen tight musculature and fascia and helps stimulate blood and lymphatic circulation.  Massage technique strokes are applied towards the heart, lessening the load on the contraction of the heart muscle which stimulates deep relaxation.

Manual lymphatic drainage (wellness only)

Lymphatic Drainage is a very gentle technique used to promote and stimulate the movement of lymph fluid throughout the lymphatic system. The amount of pressure used is no more than the weight of a nickel. This treatment helps with edema (swelling), removing waste products from the tissues and enhancing immune system functioning.

Manual lymphatic drainage (Post-Operation)

This session is intended for those who have recently (48hrs+) received a cosmetic or medical operation. Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is a type of gentle treatment which is intended to encourage the natural drainage of the lymph, which carries waste products away from the tissues back toward the heart. Katie provides this service and completed holds her Manual Lymphatic Drainage Certificate from the Academy of Lymphatic Studies.

Prenatal (Pregnancy Massage)

Prenatal massage is a deeply relaxing treatment catered to the expecting mother, using comfortable cushions and being in the side-lying position to help ease pressure off of the abdomen and low back. One of the focuses of the session is reducing stress, as stress can have a negative impact on pregnancy, labor and postpartum recovery. Prenatal massage can help with related physical discomforts such muscle pain and tension in the lower back, hips and feet, reduce swelling, increase circulation. Specific techniques are used, and others are avoided to provide a safe, relaxing massage for the expecting mother.

Gentle holds of the head, occiput, and face ease tension in the head, neck & entire body, and cradling the sacrum helps minimize low back pain & enhance healing.
