OUR SERVICEs

Massage Modalities

Medical Massage

Medical massage is outcome based massage therapy in which the treatment focuses on a systemic condition (such as fibromyalgia), or focused work, such as healing from a sprain.  For focused work, typically the treatment is 30-45 min, with only working on one area of the body for that specific concern.  Treatment for a systemic condition focuses on musculature, fascia and lymphatics that are affected by the condition within the body as a whole.

Deep Tissue massage

Deep tissue massage therapy is treatment that focuses on the deeper layers of musculature and fascia.  Techniques are used such as deeper effleurage and petrissage (swedish strokes), muscle stripping (bringing healthy blood to the targeted band of muscle), trigger point therapy (targeted, focused work on trigger points/areas of hyperirritable muscle cells) and myofascial release (targeting adhesions in the superficial and deep layers of fascia).

Post Event Sports Massage

A Post Event Sports Massage session can be booked following an athletic event, such as a swim meet, marathon or gym workout. The session includes massage techniques that focus on muscle recuperation. The techniques and modalities used (but are not limited to), include myofascial release, muscle stripping, stretching and/or trigger point therapy.

Classic Swedish Massage

Swedish massage is a classic relaxation massage which uses gliding techniques of effleurage and petrissage to loosen tight musculature and fascia and helps stimulate blood and lymphatic circulation.  Strokes are applied towards the heart, lessening the load on the contraction of the heart muscle which stimulates deep relaxation.

Prenatal (Pregnancy Massage)

Prenatal massage is catered to the expecting mother, using comfortable cushions and being in the side-lying position to help ease pressure off of the abdomen and low back. One of the focuses of the session is reducing stress, as stress can have a negative impact on pregnancy, labor and postpartum recovery. Prenatal massage can help with related physical discomforts such as low back pain and swelling, in addition to heightened stress levels. Certain techniques are used, and others are avoided to provide a safe, relaxing massage for the expecting mother.

lymphatic drainage

Lymphatic Drainage is a gentle technique used to promote and stimulate the movement of lymph fluid throughout the lymphatic system. It helps with edema (swelling), removing waste products from the tissues in addition to other benefits.

Reflexology

(Foot) reflexology is focused work on specific areas of the feet that correspond to organs, body systems and areas of the body.  The thought is that by affecting these areas on the feet, the body is brought to a state of homeostasis.

COUPLES/SIDE-BY-SIDe massages

A great way to spend the morning or afternoon with your significant other or friend. If booking a couples or side-by-side massage, please text or call (973) 670-2713 or email us at hello@madsenmassagetherapy.com

Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a form of Japanese bodywork and literally translates to “finger pressure.” Traditionally it is practiced on the floor, however we do table shiatsu. The idea behind Shiatsu is that by every organ and system of the body has a corresponding “meridian” - or a pathway, much like a road. These pathways, or meridians, have stops, called acupoints. By stimulating these points and pathways through palm pressure, finger pressure and stretching, balance is brought back to the body. Similar to acupuncture, shiatsu can be a great addition to your overall health by helping with numerous conditions, including, but not limited to allergies, anxiety and digestive issues. Please wear lose fitting clothing to the session.
